Things to Do to Take the Stress out of Your Commute in Charlotte

According to the Chamber of Commerce, more than 180,000 people commute to and from Charlotte every day. No matter where you are coming from or going to, the time spent on the road will vary, depending on the weather and whether there is road construction or an accident. Here are some things you can do to improve your commuting experience and help you stress less.

Carpool

Take turns driving with a coworker to and from work. Not only does this save you gas money, it saves you the headache of always having to drive and sit in traffic with no one to talk with to pass the time. Additionally, you can utilize the carpool lane on the highway to bypass all the traffic – something enviable to most solo commuters.

Use Public Transportation

Skip driving your car in favor of using public transportation. Ride one of the buses or light rail trains or use one of the 90 commuter-operated vanpools. The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) provides a free vanpool matching service.

If you decide to use public transportation, be courteous to your neighbor. Instead of taking up what could be another person’s seat, keep your belongings on your lap or under your seat. You can also use this time to get any work done that you would normally have to do at home.

Keep Snacks With You

It happens to all of us – we forget (or don’t have time) to eat breakfast, so we’re left hungry and grumpy on the way to work. Try keeping granola bars or other snacks in your car that don’t require refrigeration. Sitting in traffic will be much more bearable if you aren’t being bothered by your grumbling stomach.

Try an Alternate Route

Avoid the most highly traveled roads by changing up your usual route. While this takes some pre-planning, apps like Google Maps and Waze will automatically choose the quickest way to your destination by avoiding heavy traffic. However, be sure you do not use them while you are driving your vehicle.

While these tips may make your commute easier to deal with, accidents can still happen. If you are involved in an accident during your Charlotte commute, or when driving on any other roadway, contact a car accident lawyer at Campbell & Associates for a free consultation.
